Humanoid Robots Are Taking Over?

March 16, 2017

This blog highlights two articles by Shelly Palmer which explore the first, and last, 5 jobs Robots will take over from Humans.

“Oxford University researchers have estimated that 47% of U.S. jobs could be automated within the next two decades. There is an 83% chance that workers who earn $20 an hour or less could have their jobs replaced by robots in the next five years. Those in the $40 an hour pay range face a 31% chance of having their jobs taken over by the machines.”

If you move cells around in Excel, apparently, you are at a high risk of a robot takeover. Sales people, reporters, journalists, and accountants might also need new careers soon. Machines can read data quickly and accurately across many functions.

Doctors are also in the first 5, but this is supposed to be a very good thing due to world population growth, which is expected to grow to 11.2 billion in 2100. In practice, if everyone who ever wanted to be a doctor became one, we still would not have enough doctors. Who knew?!

The very last 5 jobs have some common themes of unique talent, or emotionally based talents you cannot learn from data. If you are a pre-school teacher, professional athlete, politician, judge, mental health doctor or artist (dancer, musician, painter, singer) then you are safe from a near term robotic takeover!
